Beauty Secret of the Week: Baking Soda
There is more to baking
soda than meets the eye. Aside from using it as a kitchen tile cleaner or an
ingredient to your batter, baking soda serves
as a cheap beauty product and remedy to common hygiene problems.
1.
Dry Shampoo
A
little baking soda goes a long way. Sprinkle a little bit of the powder on your
scalp and brush/comb it through and you’ll get clean, oil-free hair in no time.
2.
Anti-Dandruff
Use
baking soda as an alternative to shampoo when you have dandruff. Skip shampooing
for a while. Instead, massage your hair
with baking soda to clean the scalp and get rid of the flakes.
3.
Brush/Comb Cleaner
After
using it on your hair, place your brush in a basin of warm water mixed with a tablespoon
of baking soda. Leave it for 15 minutes for the dirt to come off then rinse
thoroughly.
4.
Itch Reliever Bath Solution
Add
a cup of baking soda and 1 ¼ cups of your favourite baby oil to your bath.
5.
Whitening Deodorant
Instead
of using commercial deodorants, apply baking soda to your underarms for protection
against odour and harsh chemicals.
6.
Teeth Whitening
You
can use baking soda as it is or add a little amount of water to get that paste-like
consistency. Put it on your toothbrush and brush those yellow stains away.
7.
Breath Deodorizer
Mix
a tablespoon of baking soda in a glass of water as an alternative to your
alcohol-based mouthwash.
8.
DIY Foot Scrub
Prepare
a basin with warm water mixed with 3-5 tablespoons of baking soda and the
perfect pumice stone for a nice, hot foot scrub.
9.
Exfoliant
If
you’ve already used up all your exfoliating body wash, don’t throw the bottle. Fill
it with water, baking soda and your favourite essential oils until you get your
desired consistency.
