HIMYM Is Ending And We Might Not Like The Way It’s Heading
The very recent How I
Met Your Mother episode entitled “Vesuvius” just dropped some hints of how
Ted and The Mother’s future is going to be – or, will there be a future for the
both of them? Avid fans of the long-running sitcom have been wondering why Ted
is telling his kids about the story of how he met their mother in the first
place. Some of them even hypothesized that maybe, he’s recalling the moments to
his children to pay tribute to his dead wife. Gasp! How dare they?! But, after
“Vesuvius” aired, a lot has been contemplating that the writers might head
towards that terribly depressing direction.
In 2024, Ted tells The Mother
about the story of how Robin and Lily got into a fight hours before Robin and Barney’s wedding. The
Mother then realizes that she already knows how the story ends and that he has told it several
times now.
Scene
1
Ted:
“I’m just a boring old man who won’t stop spinning yarns.”
T.M.
(The Mother): “Hey, I love your yarns. I hope you never stop spinning them.”
Ted:
“But ...”
T.M.:
“You’re the love of my life, Pooh Bear. I just worry about you. I don’t want
you to be the guy who lives in his stories. Life only moves forward.”
Ted:
“So, what happens next with Lily and the wedding dress?”
Scene

Ted:
“And then, I think, it hit all of us. We didn’t know the next time we’d be
together. This was it. (Pertaining to the scene where the gang realized that
after the wedding Ted would be moving to Chicago.) And, it’s funny, in moment
like that when what’s really happening is too intense to deal with, sometimes
it’s best...”
T.M.:
“To leave it unspoken (teary-eyed) and just enjoy each other’s company instead
(holds his hand).
Ted: (nods)
Scene

After
telling the story that Robin’s mom actually came to her wedding...
Ted:
“And that’s the story... right down to the surprise ending.”
T.M.:
“Was that really such a surprise? I mean, c’mon, of course she showed up. What
mother is going to miss her daughter’s wedding?”
Ted:
(tears up)
T.M.:
“Oh, hey. No, (sobs too) c’mon.”
Ted:
“It’s okay, I’m fine. I’m okay.”
T.M.:
(sobs and sighs as she tries to change the topic) “Did Barney really wear a
scuba suit into the bar?”
Then
they talk and their voices fade as the song “"If You See Her Say
Hello" by Bob Dylan plays in the background.
So, what do you think?
We really hope it doesn’t end that way. I mean, c’mon HIMYM
writers, hasn’t Ted suffered enough? Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby) said in his
interview with Craig Ferguson that they’ve already shot the last episode last
Friday. Well, I guess the only thing left to do now is to wait for the series
finale to be aired on March 31 and grab on to some Kleenex, just in case
(sobs).
